Journal entry by Gale & Mark Leidolf —
On Wednesday, Mark had a 2.5 hr appointment with a Neuro-Opthamologist.
The Doctors overall assessment is that Marks Left Side Peripheral vision deficit is permanent, not temporary. Meaning as a result of the Strokes, his brain can't signal to his muscles, nerves and eyes to automatically look to the left, and scan left to right normally, as you and I do. With continued Therapy it may improve slightly, but a 100% full recovery of this deficit is highly unlikely due to the brain damage.
All of this being stated, the Doctor said it's not safe for Mark to ever Drive again, operate Power Tools, or tools of any type. It's not only the eye issues that makes it not safe, but he does not have the core strength to sit up, stand, walk, by himself. Nor does he have proper balance while standing or walking, or use of his left arm or hand. Needless to say, Mark is depressed with this news.
Mark used to love and enjoy playing his guitars, dog walking, fishing, boating, working with his tools, tinkering around the house, working out with weights, going out to eat, driving the truck we bought as his retirement gift which was totaled when he had his first July 2023 Stroke while driving. Looking back over the past 10 months, Marks Strokes have taken away EVERYTHING he had enjoyed, and looked forward to in Retirement. Also, Mark is a 2-time Prostate Cancer Survivor, in addition to the 4 Strokes in the past year. Sometimes life just is NOT fair 😔😥, and this kind hearted, fun loving man certainly doesn't deserve all this.
