Journal entry by Sarah Anne Hedrick

Mark Russell Grant was born in Fairmont, Minnesota, on January 13, 1955, and passed away, surrounded by family, on November 4, 2022, after a relatively short battle with intestinal cancer.

Mark can be described well as a gentleman musician, artist, owner of Grant Service Company, traveler, fisherman, and lover of people. Mark was deeply proud of his son Matthew Grant and what an incredible man he has become. They shared an entrepreneurial streak and a mutual love for music, particularly the guitar. Mark was also an avid outdoors man and recreational sailor.  He loved encouraging others to try new adventures with him.

In addition to Matthew (Jill Dunn), Mark is survived by his five siblings, Charles Grant, Jr. (Suzanne), Daniel Grant (Judy), Sarah Anne Grant Hedrick (Jim), Mary Jane Grant, and Bruce Grant (Rebecca); eight nieces and nephews, six great nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles David Grant, Sr. and Anne King Grant. The family wants everyone to know that Mark did not want people to think of his passing negatively but referred to it as “my next great adventure – I get to go see God!”

There will be an outdoor Celebration of Life for Mark on Saturday, November 12, beginning at 1:00 PM CST with the service following at 2:00. Afterwards, the family invites you to join them for “A Grant family pot-luck supper” and music fest. All these events will take place at Mark’s happy place, the Rome Sailing Club, Weiss Lake, Leesburg, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, Mark asked that donations be made to The Hedrick Foundation (hedrickfoundation.org.).
