Marilyn’s Story

Site created on September 30, 2020

In mid-September 2020 I began experiencing lethargy, nausea, and the onset of jaundice. I landed in the emergency room at Abbott Northwestern Hospital on September 24th. After a series of tests and procedures over the course of a week all signs are pointing to cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) / adenocarcinoma. My journal on this CaringBridge site provides details on my health. In all this, I am feeling blessed to be surrounded by a loving and caring community of family, friends, church members, neighbors, etc. who are supporting and praying for me. My strong faith in God is carrying me through.

Journal entry by Marilyn Kirk

Hello dear friends and relatives:  Had my quarterly scan and labs.  Everything continues to look very good!  I am so thankful for God's blessings.  THe only minor thing is my hemoglobin is not going up much from last quarter - so the oncologist will give it a good boost with an infusion this week for 15 min and next week.  He thinks I can maintain the level  of iron I need then.  For the past 3 months I have been very faithfully taking his recommended plant based iron supplement 2 times a day.  And it will be nice to have more energy after the infusions.   So in the future I only have to see the oncologist every 6 months.  As long there is no problem with future scans and labs I won't be in touch  with you through Caring Bridge, but I so often reflect on your great support in so many ways - and will continue to do so.  May you be blessed.    Marilyn
