Maria Carmen’s Story

Today started out as any other day for me (Amaya). While I was at work, my dad called my phone and I didn’t see it. I saw it right away and listened to the voicemail and knew with the first couple words it wasn’t good. I called him right back and he said that the paramedics were working on my mom. He said that he found her unresponsive and called 911. He saw her sitting up on the couch with her head off to one side and saw her breathing. He went outside to his “man cave” (garage) and came back in about 30 min later and noticed she wasn’t breathing. He grabbed her hand it just dropped and she didn’t respond. Then he called 911 and they instructed him to start CPR. I told him to call me back if/when they were going to transport. He called me back (which it seemed like forever) and said they were going to transport to ANW. I told him I was going to meet them there and told him to ask if he could ride with the paramedics. I actually did beat them there but due to the parking in the ER I came down as soon as I found a spot. I finally got into the ER and found my dad. I did find the paramedics and they told me that they saw my dad doing CPR! Way to go dad! The ED doc said that he was concerned for her neuro status due to the lack of oxygen she has had. They did a CT scan and saw that her right lung is all cancer...advanced cancer....which metastasized to her adrenal glands. So my guess is that her right lung gave out and when my dad saw her “breathing” it was agonal breathing? Who knows.. but as of now, she is intubated, on cardiac icu...on lots of IV meds...her core temp in the ED was 91 degrees...so they are slowly warming her up...so my dad couldn’t stay at the hospital any longer so I brought him home. That is when it really hit my father. I’m hoping we will know lore tomorrow. I am praying for a good outcome but it doesn’t look good...

I did contact thru Facebook my family in Spain....my mom is the oldest of 3...she has a younger brother and sister. My dad will contact them by phone tomorrow (due to the time difference)

It hasn’t been a good year for me and my family. I do appreciate all your love and prayers during this time.
