Marcy’s Story

Site created on October 8, 2023

They say when it rains it pours....we definitely feel like we have been soaked by the storm recently. But we know that the rainbows will soon follow. After a recent Illness and hospitalization this summer (for what I thought was food poisoning) I learned that I had stage IV colon cancer...which is so very hard to say out loud, some days I still can't believe it.

It has been a whirlwind the last two months between tests, doctors appointments and not feeling like myself. But the great news is I have finally gotten a plan in place. I'm in the care of two amazing doctors at The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville and will be undergoing surgery on Monday, to remove part of my liver, gallbladder and cancer from my colon. While this is a major surgery I am confident that things will be just fine....I appreciate all of the texts, messages, emails and calls.

I am so thankful to have such amazing friends and family who have surrounded us with love and support. Everyone who knows me knows I'm not great at accepting help, I love my independence and I love to do for others. But in this season I'm in right now, I greatly appreciate the kindness and thoughtfulness towards our family.

After surgery on Monday I will remain in the hospital for 5-7 days and then be at home for 4-6 weeks of recovery. Once healed they will start 6 months of chemo.....I know that there is a long road ahead of me and I know it won't be easy. But I'm ready to take this head on. 💙 Jon Grauer

Marcy is doing really well. She is able to walk around on her own, she's eating, and we have her pain managed pretty good.
