Journal entry by Marc Pitman

Hello everyone. I just returned from the James Cancer Center in Columbus where I had a discussion about proceeding with a stem cell transplant. My jakafi and hydrea medications are keeping my blood counts in a sweet spot and you'll be happy to know that my symptoms have been minimal.
After a lot of sweat, tension and talk ( and glasses of wine) we have decided that postponing the stem cell transplant is in my best interest. The best that can be hoped for is staying somewhat healthy and symptom free. I will be monitored weekly with blood tests and monthly with visits to my doctors at the James.
Some of  you may ask "why don't I just do the treatment?" The simple answer is, I may not survive a stem cell transplant. I have at least three mutations and my donor is only a half match which brings the success rate for a transplant down to 28% and the chances of a relapse after a year up to 50%.
I'm going to try and make the most of what I have and enjoy this little slice of heaven that I've been blessed with.
See you in the future.
Marc
