Journal

Hello all!

I just realized it has been almost exactly a year since my last post. Wow time flies when you're not in cancer land anymore!

To update so far, Marco has gotten a couple of scans this year. One in January, and one in early October both showing fully clear.

They cleared him to get his port removed and this morning got his port out! He will remain on blood thinners for the next month while he recovers from the procedure to make sure no unnecessary clots form in the healing process and then he can stop!

This is huge because he will be able to resume sports and more risky activities and not have to worry about head injury! He can resume biking which he is looking forward to and he can go skating with me finally (a hobby I've taken up this year in my newfound emotional capacity after all of this).

Marco will continue to get "maintenance scans" for the next few years just to check in and make sure nothing popped back up. After a few years if he has clear scans they will stop and say he is cured. The highest chance of relapse/recurrence is in the next 5 years so after that it is very unlikely it comes back. I'll try to remember to update as things come up but consider no news as good news!

Thank you to everyone that has cared and checked in and been with us through this process. It has been an emotional year for marco processing through what he went through last year with not only cancer but the pulmonary embolism that deeply scared us all but each day forward takes us farther from the trauma of it. We are so grateful for being on the other side of this experience and for your support along the way.
