Journal entry by Justin Schaefer —
Day 2 of recovery seems to be headed in the right direction. She started the day by walking into the hospital hallway. Her body is starting to move air and fluid through, so that is a great sign to start the day! She is starting to feel more pain now that the surgery meds are wearing off. About mid-day they decided to shut off the tube for 6 hours that goes in her nose and to her stomach to allow more ice chips to process through her body. This proved to be successful and she was able to process the ice chips. Then like a miracle, they came in last night and said everything is looking good enough to remove the tube completely and put her on a liquid diet. She was so happy as that thing has made her throat sore and hard to swallow. This am, she got broth and juice. She is now wanting to take a shower today, so that is our next project. They have also said once she can eat soft foods and keep them down, she can go home and manager her healing and pain there.
Thank you everyone for your support, help, and prayers. It is all helping and working!!
