Journal entry by Mara Kahn —
Today is Phil and my 32nd wedding anniversary. A good first day of the next phase of healing.
I am working. with 2 neurologists at UCSF to get to the root problem, my near total resistance to strong pain meds. This is all complicated even more by my Parkinson’s. This trauma response has set off some symptoms I don’t normally experience. They should abate but for now it’s annoying. But it’s all potentially solvable.
Step 1 is regulating my sleep pattern to be in sync with the rest of the world. Last night I slept 10 hours, albeit with Trazadone, but still I slept.
Step 2, for which I am awaiting my UCSF Parkinson’s doctor’s referral, is to work with UCSF Pain Management to get to the root of my complete resistance to the effects of strong pain meds. We need to devise a pain management protocol that works without opioids should I find myself in a pain crisis in the future. By pushing such a high level of opioids in the ER in Hawaii they depressed my heart rate and breathing that effectively OD’d and needed to be brought back with Narcan. We are about to embark on that road.
Frankly right now while I appreciate all the homeopathy and medicinals‘ suggestions from so many, I want to work with UCSF to devise a traditional medical, medicinals, and pharmaceutical based protocol to have in Phil’s and my wallet for the “next” pain crisis.
The 10 hours of uninterrupted sleep last night I can only believe is a good start.
Jewish prayers for healing are encompassed in the Mi Shebeirach. In it we pray for refuah sleimah, a renewal of body and spirit. Here is a link to a beautiful rendition. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HX5TWsfykSs. When you listen I appreciate your healing thoughts.
Thanks for riding along.
