Maja’s Story

Site created on September 24, 2019

My name is Maja Murphy. On the morning of 9/8/13 I was running a fever of 100 and had stopped eating. My family had taken me to the Urgent Care, to get medicine for the flu we thought I had. Instead the doctors at Urgent Care were unsure why I wouldn't eat so they sent me to the place where I was born, Hillcrest. At the new hospital they poked me over and over taking blood and urine, it wasn't their fault though I have little veins. They also put me in a big machine that took a picture of my chest. My family and I were anxious to go home until the Doctor came in and told them she was very worried about me and said they thought I had Leukemia. I don't know what that meant but my family started crying. The doctor went on to explain my white blood cell count was extremely high while my red blood count was extremely low. Me and mommy went in an ambulance to the new hospital, Cleveland Clinic, to see a specialist. I found out I have Infant ALL (Acute Lymphoblast Leukemia). I will be posting more about my treatments and what the new doctors are telling me everyday. Please keep me in your prayers because I am very sick and need all the prayers I can get.

Maja has been doing wonderfully. She hasn't received any side effects yet, 90% of patients start getting side effects between day 3 and day 7 but they're a few outliers that don't get any side effects till around day 55. Maja is most likely going to be an outlier or she could very well be the first child to not receive any side effects at all. We shall wait and see. Her counts are very low so the risk for infection in high but that is expected. Overall, her doctors are amazed.

Since Maja is doing so well, there is talk of her getting discharged on Monday and monitoring her from home.
