  • Super heroes don’t usually wear capes or high-heeled boots and star spangled swim wear. Recently I was “introduced”, through Facebook, to a young woman  who is the mother of two young children and is going through her second diagnosis of breast cancer. She wears an apron, fixes breakfast, wipes her babies faces and sticky fingers and kisses their faces with strength and hope. She will soon undergo surgery to continue to be there for her family. She has gone through radiation and chemotherapy on trip after trip to hospitals. And still she wipes sticky fingers and kisses her babies believing in tomorrow. Super heroes are our neighbors quietly giving every ounce of their strength to raise their babies. At the end of treatment she rang the bell and was applauded by doctors and nurses for her endurance and courage. No one made a movie about her. No one is waiting in line to buy tickets. She doesn’t have time for high-heeled boots and star spangled clothing. There are dishes and dust to tend and babies to love. She is the real-life hero.
