The final Caring Bridge post written by Maddie today....

It has been 861 days since finding out I was diagnosed with Leukemia. Since August 11, 2021, I have had countless moments that have altered my life. But, through every single moment, I have had my family, my friends, nurses, doctors, and so many more there to carry me through to now. And because of everyone, I am able to ring the bell today and celebrate being 2 years cancer free. I will never be able to fully express what these last two and a half years entailed and the gratitude I have for everybody that offered a little bit of their kindness to me. But, all I can say if that I am so thankful for every one of you. 

Thankful for my mom. Who’s been by my side the entire time; for every hospital stay, for every bad day, and for every good one. I love you so much and I would not have been able to be here today without you. 

Thankful for my sisters. Who have made me laugh, been there when I cried, and done anything and everything to make sure I was okay. I love y’all and I’m so proud of y’all. 

Thankful for my aunt, uncle, and cousin. Thank you, gee for bringing me to some (too many) of my chemo appointments, being there, and always bringing me to the beach when it was much needed. (I think it’s time to go again lol). Thank you paul and mitchell for just being present too. I love all of y’all. 

Thankful to my best friend. Emily has shown me what it’s like to have someone that isn’t blood as family. Emily has been there for every tear, for every celebration, and everyday in between. I love you. 

Lastly, I am thankful for my mawmaw. As some may know, mawmaw passed unexpectedly two months ago. It is even more known that mawmaw was going to be here today no matter what. Mawmaw wore at least 3 bracelets everyday that said “I wear orange for maddie,” and mawmaw took every chance she got to tell me how proud she was of me. Mawmaw had always told me how she was going to be at the ringing of the bell since the day I was diagnosed and I fully believe she was here. Sadly, she wasn’t physically present but I know she is smiling down today right next to my dad. I love and miss you both.
