Journal entry by Rana Bryan —
Maddie had another CT scan this morning and it didn't show any change from the previous day. The surgeon said that there is a hematoma, but that they believe it has been there since her surgery last week. These are often operated on, but he wants to be conservative and allow it to heal on its own. He feels her body will just absorb the blood over the next few months without having to have surgery. He is very positive because her vitals, cognition and strength have not been compromised. 🙏 The hematoma is causing a lot of pressure in her head which causes the headaches. On top of that, she was on pain medication that made her slightly nauseous. Then she stopped eating and drinking enough which made her very dehydrated. The combination of the three was a "perfect storm" for severe pain in her head and overall sickness. Now that she is hydrated and on different meds, she has been doing much better. They kept us overnight again to observe and monitor her. The plan is for us to go home tomorrow, if she continues to do well. We are so grateful she is not having another brain surgery and grateful that the staff at Golisano has taken such great care of Maddie once again. Between the wonderful care at Golisano and the prayers and positivity of family and friends, we are moving forward once again with good news. Thank you so much for being there for us! We can't thank you enough for the love and support!
