Journal entry by Matt mutert

Madalynn has been home for six weeks now. She is weighs almost 9 pounds and is 21 inches long. She is 162 days old and 56 days adjusted. We are doing great. I love being home with her but definitely over estimated how much you can accomplish at home with a new baby. We have been calling her Maddie a lot more these days. She still is getting weight checks weekly from our home nurse. Maddie needs to gain weight a little faster. She is eating about a half an ounce to ounce more each feeding. Hopefully this helps her start gaining faster. We are still on .75 of oxygen, it didn't get lowered because of her slow weight gain. The doctors don't want her to have to use to many calories breathing and possibly not gain or even lose weight. I was a little disappointed it didn't get lowered, but obviously I want her to grow and develop without problems. Maddie is doing great at tracking with her eyes and recognizing voices. I love that she searches for me when I start talking. She needs to focus on her neck control and fine motor skills. Physical therapy is coming in our house bi-weekly to help with these skills. They will also go to daycare when that time comes too. We want to make sure everyone taking care of her is working on the same skills the same way. Last week Maddie's eyes finally matured! Thank goodness, clean bill of health with the eye doctor for now. She will still follow closely with a pediatric eye doctor due to being a micro preemie and her eyes taking a long time to mature. I am thankful the weekly/biweekly eye appointments are done. Maddie had her follow up with cardiology this past month. We didn't get many answers as her Echo results are inconsistent. I am focusing on the positive, her PDA is closed and her PFO is small. We follow up this summer and hopefully we get same results. We still have a lot of appointments but they are whittling down slowly. In the last week she has really started smiling and cooing at us. I am excited for this new stage other than her not really napping during the day. This makes for a cranky baby sometimes. I also don't get much done because she isn't napping. Maddie's cousin was born on Valentine's day. Maddie weighs 9 ounces more but he is longer by half an inch. Kanyon is precious, good job Mike and Audrey! I can't wait to watch them grow up together. I am thankful to have her home and healthy. I am so scared of RSV and Flu season, please continue to pray we all stay healthy. Thank you all for following Maddie's progress and keeping her in your thoughts and prayers.
