Mac’s Story

Site created on February 3, 2022

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Mac had a regularly scheduled appointment with his cardiologist on January 31. At the appointment, Dr. Ensley stated that he has a very weak heart so it was appropriate to discuss two things: hospice care and if/when he feels it would be beneficial to turn off the defibrillator since this would be a question hospice would need to know. On February 1, we had an evaluation from hospice, and the discussion began about the defibrillator but we still  had some questions. Early morning on February 2, Mac's defibrillator fired four times. This was enough for him to feel confident in the decision to turn it off. Bryan from MedTronic came out to the house and turned off the device at 2:15 p.m. while Mac was surrounded by family.

The purpose of this CaringBridge is to keep family and friends informed of the happenings going forward. He has been comfortable and at peace with his decision.
