Journal entry by Kris Meier

Hello everyone, it’s Mackenzie!

Thank you so much for following along through this process. Yesterday was officially my dismissal day from the Mayo. WE’RE HOME! I’m in pain still, but much more tolerable than it has been. I’ve been walking (slowly) and finally was able to roll to my side while sleeping.

There is still quite a few appointments I will need to go to locally, but it feels amazing to be back home with my dad and pups. I will start with labs every week to monitor my kidney function. Eventually they will be needed less often, but these labs are needed for the rest of my life. Everything has been looking good and i’m praying it continues to improve!

Today was extra special because I got the chance to briefly talk with the recipient of my dads kidney. He was so appreciative that he came up to me with tears and asked that I pass on his appreciation to my dad. It was an extra special moment realizing what a gift we both were blessed with.

Huge shout out to my mom who has been taking care of me since I was out of the hospital. It’s a pretty busy gig… lol. She basically has to do everything from putting my shoes on to packing up the whole rental house on her own. We had lots of quality time together watching movies, going out to eat, and going to and from appointments. I’m so thankful to have such an amazing mom that has shown up for me throughout this whole process. 🤍

Once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart to those of you who reached out, sent cards, gave me gifts, and prayed for us during our surgeries. I felt unbelievably calm on surgery day thanks to the peaceful and calming energy the Lord was showering us with. Normally i’m a complete mess before having surgery, but definitively noticed a shift this time.

I am so thankful and blessed with this new lease on life 🎉
