Lynn’s Story

Site created on July 3, 2018

I was diagnosed with Large B Cell Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma on Friday, June 8th.   What a surprise it was to find out the biopsy results after waiting impatiently for two weeks.  Action began immediately with blood work and a CAT scan that same day.   The next Monday, Don and I met with my primary physician - Dr. Amanda Waltz and referrals were made to Alexandria's Medical Oncology and also Mayo Clinic.   Within less than 24 hours, I received a phone call from the Mayo Clinic and appointments were set up for the next week.   We prayed that God would provide the right place and the right timing, and it was definitely God's  answer to our prayers to get on top of this progressive type of cancer.

We spent June 18th - 20th at the Mayo Clinic with many tests, scans and meeting my new hematologist - Dr. Joseph Colgan.  It was an amazing experience to be in the midst of Mayo Clinic  with so many wonderful staff assisting with test, scans and screenings.   We were happy to find out after three days of testing that the lymphoma cancer appears to be localized in three nodes in my upper breast and arm pit area, which can be treatable with Chemotherapy.

Dr. Colgan's recommendation at this time  is to do six chemotherapy every 21 days with a  schedule that is always open to change.  I was then scheduled back at Mayo to start on Friday, June 29th.  On the road to recovery.....

Journal entry by Lynn Johnson

As most of you know, I had follow-up tests and appointments at Mayo Clinic last Thursday and Friday.  It was one year ago this past weekend (June 8th) that I received my cancer diagnosis of lymphoma.  During those first days, I had that overwhelming worry of what will my next year look like.

I am pleased to say that it is one year later, and I am cancer free, and my blood work, kidney and heart function are all in normal ranges.  My hair is growing like a weed, and I am adjusting to short hair and a new color.  Praise the Lord!

I can't thank my friends and family enough for all of the prayers and support.  I am so blessed to have the best support network ever.  I believe God allows some of our tough situations for a reason.  I also believe that God has used me, and He will continue to use me as I shared my cancer journey with others.
