Lynn’s Story

Site created on March 1, 2018

Hello to Lynnie’s loved ones. As mom suffered from kidney stones, compounding her myelofibrosis, measures had to be attempted to alleviate the pain and her wonderful urologist tried to break up the stones and several surgeries were planned for the ensuing weeks and months. Unfortunately, and the medical team isn’t exactly sure as to why, she ended up with acute renal injury and her kidneys stopped functioning.  She has required dialysis every few days as well as platelet and red blood cell transfusions....far more frequently than her status quo weekly transfusions. I hope you will find the journal entries satisfying to your questions and helpful in processing your emotions as she spends her remaining days in the hospital. Love to all of you. Becca

This will be in the paper on Sunday, April 1--
Mary Lynn (Steinbock) Bunger Timbrook

Louisville - 69, passed away at Baptist East Hospital on Sunday, March 18, 2018 after a month long vigil by close friends and family. She was a lifelong resident of Kentucky, graduating from Sacred Heart in 1966 and then from the University of Kentucky, returning to Louisville to teach at Parkland Junior High School.

The eldest of 7 children, she learned early on how to organize activities, continuing in the role of family organizer even as her health declined. Mary Lynn gave generously of her many talents to all she knew - from arranging flowers for many weddings, sewing window treatments for loved ones, organizing chili suppers for her church, St. Frances of Rome, cooking soup for sick friends, hosting wedding and baby showers - she was always there to lead the way in caring for loved ones, teaching us by example how we treat one another with respect and love.

With her boundless energy and outgoing personality she easily made friends, whether it was with a stranger while in line at the grocery, at school, on the tennis court, at the bridge table, as a patient in the hospital, or with newcomers to the family table, bringing a friendly smile and quick rapport to every encounter. Add to that her quick feisty wit, competitive nature, and forthrightness in speaking her mind, making her a force to remember!

She has been an inspiration to us all in her determination to live life to the fullest, especially as she faced her 11 year long battle with myelofibrosis. In the midst of that time she reconnected with her first love, Bobby. They married and had 5 happy years together. Bobby lovingly helped her keep her flower gardens blooming and together they canned the bounty of his vegetable garden, sharing with family and friends. They enjoyed many trips to places she loved including Europe, Colorado, and the Bahamas.

Mary Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund A. and Louise F. Steinbock and a husband, Harold Bunger.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her loving husband, Bobby Timbrook, and her 2 daughters, Rebecca Kurty Kendall (John) and Deborah Kurty Campbell (Dennis), and Bobby’s daughter, Laurel Timbrook Glenn, and their children, Brett Campbell, Brooke Campbell, Brittany Campbell, Wesley Kendall, Hailey Kendall, Anna Kendall and Amelie Glenn.      .

From her previous marriage: Mike Bunger, Michelle Clubb (Alan), Marla Zwakenberg (Jerry), Mark Bunger (Anne), Mitchell Bunger, Maureen Hawkins (Kenny), plus their 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

She is also survived by her 6 siblings: Andy (Susanne), Allen (Sherry), Ted (Sarah), David (Barbara), Greg (Beth), and Anne Smith (Jeff), and 19 Steinbock nieces and nephews plus 10 great nieces and nephews that all adore Aunt Lynnie. We will all miss her terribly.

The family wants to thank the Baptist East Hospital Park Tower 3 staff for the wonderful loving care they have given Mary Lynn over the last several years with transfusions and her end of life care. We also thank Dr. Huber and the staff of CBC for their excellent care as well as Dr. Eifler with First Urology.

Visitation will be Friday, April 6, 2018, from 4 pm - 7 pm, at Pearson’s Funeral Home, 149 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville, Ky.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church, 2053 Payne Street, Louisville, Ky.,                         .

There will be a private burial at Cave Hill Cemetery at a later date.

As an expression of sympathy we suggest a donation to a charity of your choice or flowers that celebrate her joy of life and which we invite you to take home following the funeral.
