Lynn’s Story

Site created on February 12, 2024

Hello Lynn's Family and Friends,

On February 11, 2024, Lynn had a hemorrhagic stroke while in his home. This is the place to keep up-to-date on how Lynn is doing and to help us keep the prayers coming. We will post here as we know more.

Lynn is such a badass. Just the day before his stroke, he was riding BMX and enjoying his life. He works out 5-days per week and has figured out that retirement is a pretty sweet deal. As you post, feel free to post your pictures of his awesomeness. While this is a scary experience, we want to keep his site as positive and as vibrant as Lynn.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Will Austin

Hello Team Austin!

Lynn has been moved back into Generose to (re)start his physical therapy recovery! He has done a lot – a LOT – of work to recover enough to get back there.

It’s been a month since he had to leave Generose with the infection – meningitis – that sent him to the ICU. The meningitis really knocked him down a peg, and admittedly it feels like starting back at square 1 of recovery. But we’re back started. We’re still not exactly sure of the timeline it will take to get him back to Mankato and, eventually, all the way home. The timeline will unfortunately be longer than it was before, since now there is another ICU trip to recover from. This will get pieced together more over the coming days as he gets back to daily physical and occupational therapy.

The difference between his state in the regular hospital room and the Generose room was night and day. The regular hospital room felt like maintenance, this new setting feels like progress. He got a lot of tough questions in the cognitive evaluation as part of his admittance (have you tried calculating 5 times 13 in your head recently??) and did exceptionally well (…mathematics aside). It definitely feels like he’s back in the right place, with the right team, going the right direction. Finding that place and team took an extraordinary amount of work from everyone involved; Darla, Chris, Danielle, and myself spent a lot of time and energy exploring different options, visiting different facilities, and putting together a care plan. Ultimately Generose emerged as the best possible scenario. We’re all looking forward to getting him back to Mankato, but with the toll that the meningitis took, he still needs the semi-hospital setting that Generose provides.

More updates to come! This week took its toll on all of us, working through the bureaucratic medical system. Once everything gets settled back in Generose, we’ll be able to build a timeline again. We look forward to knowing it ourselves, and will pass it on when we do 😊

…and if you haven’t pulled out your calculator yet, 5 times 13 is 65 😉
