Journal

It’s so hard to believe that almost 2 years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer and 1 year today I am cancer free. This day last year,  I was getting ready to have my mastectomy. Probably one of the toughest decisions I had ever made. Do I take my chances of reoccurrence or do I remove part of what makes me a woman. I of course chose for a lesser chance of reoccurrence. I have learned to accept me for me and I try not to be to critical of myself, but I’m not gonna lie, some days it’s hard. My journey didn’t end on this day last year, I still had to have reconstruction (another hard decision) and radiation, but today is the day I can say I’m cancer free. I just want to thank all of my family and friends that stuck by me and went through this with me. You’re support meant everything to me. I had the LORD with me the whole time, seeing me through this. I believe in the power of prayer and there were lots of them going on.

So, here’s my PSA, get those Mammos!!!!! Cancer doesn’t care about race, age, health, family history etc… it can attack anyone at anytime. I had no family history and I was only 47. Never in a million years did I think I would get it. Please get your yearly exams. If there is anything that you feel isn’t right, ask your doctor. Be an advocate for yourself.
Facts…
-1 in 8 women will get breast cancer in a lifetime
-85% had no family history
-Still #2 in leading cause of death in woman.
Have an amazing day everyone!!!!
Xoxo
