Lyle’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Early August Lyle began experiencing abominable pains that would not go away which made it uncomfortable to eat large amounts of food. This led to an ER visit and medication to try and help manage the pain. While waiting for more tests and appointments, the pain increased and Lyle stopped being able to eat most foods. He ended up losing over 40 pounds in less than 2 months. The doctors found a mass on his pancreas and several on his liver. Initially the doctors thought it might be pancreatitis and ordered a liver biopsy to rule out cancer.

Lyle was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer that had spread to his liver on Wednesday, September 21.  Lyle was then hospitalized  for being jaundice on Saturday, September 24th. During his stay at the hospital they put a stint in his liver, got his blood sugar under control, set up a pain regimen, and put in his chemo port.  The following Wednesday, the 28th, he was discharged from the hospital and had his first round of chemo.  Since he has pancreatic cancer which is the 2nd deadliest cancer, he is on the highest dose of chemo every 2 weeks; 4 hours of IV chemo in the cancer center and then he is sent home with a pump that continues to deliver chemo for the next 2 days at home.  This is currently scheduled out until the middle of  January.

Lyle is currently on insulin shots to manage his diabetes which has added extra complexity in his treatment plan, as the pancreas and liver help regulate blood sugar levels.  He is being cared for at the Frauenshuh Cancer Center at Park Nicollet in Maple Grove, MN.
