Lu’s Story

Site created on September 26, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We are not recommending donations to Caring Bridge.

A warmest welcome to family and friends of Lu and Joan Rudel and the Rudel and Devine families! Thanks for visiting here.
There have been a lot of changes for Lu and Joan in recent months, but what hasn't changed is their love for each other and for their family.

Joanna and Jack, being the nearest kids, have been amazing at working with Joan and Lu to help them live the way they each want to.  David and Ruthann are headed to DC to join the effort.
We also wanted to shout out deep love and appreciation for Joan and Lu's incredible neighbors - Betty and Allan Levine, Montse and Frank, and David Ide and  his wife Lian for being so generous, thoughtful and kind enough to take them on walks, to the ER, and for ice cream. And bunches of love also to Fred Colabelawa, Line, and Anna, whose dedication to Lu and Joan's well being is hard to overstate.
We are also so deeply happy that Lu, Joan, Joanna, Jack, David, Sandra, and all 8 grandkids were together this summer in Colrain, Mass. It's a blessing that we had that time.

So right now Lu is under hospice care for a cancerous tumor of pancreatic origin that is affecting his liver and GI tract. He is also losing blood, making him weak and anemic.  He is comfortable and apparently still has a sense of humor.  He says he feels very blessed to have had an amazing 91 years and overjoyed by the love from his family and friends.  Lu is at Kensington Park Senior Living in Maryland.  He moved home to 7600 Winterberry Place, Bethesda, with Joan, on Monday.

Please check the blog for updated info.  At this point I think you can call him or email as you have previously. I imagine he will enjoy hearing from you.

Dear friends and family, Lu passed away peacefully this morning surrounded by family.

Our family will be at home for the next couple of days to grieve together. We are still sorting out how to connect and celebrate his life with you. More on that later. You can reach us at home phone 301-229-2603.

Love,
Joan, Joanna, David, and RuthAnn
