Luke finally got discharged from the NICU last Friday!! I'm not sure if everyone is aware or not because I haven't posted about it aside from on Instagram. It's been a whirlwind and we didn't even know he was going to get to go home until the day before it happened.

About 4 days before discharge Luke got his hernia repair surgery. Based on his demeanor after he recovered we think it's what he needed to be able to take his bottle. It finally "clicked" for him and now he's feeling like a champ! A true champ. Before surgery he was taking 40-50mLs and after he jumped up to 60-75mLs. Now (at home) he has started to take 80-90mLs per feed.

We went to the pediatrician for the first time today and he's gained 12oz since leaving the hospital.

Luke's head ultrasounds showed that the fluid in his brain is collecting again and we have an appointment with neuro later this week. We also have an appointment with his developmental specialists this week as well. Oh, and an out-patient eye exam.

It's been difficult to adjust to having him at home and caring for him around the clock but we are so so grateful that he is finally home. We spent 113 days in the NICU. That's 113 days straight of driving to the hospital. Now we have a new-normal to look forward to. And I'm going to have to learn how to sleep in short bursts throughout the day, lol.

Luke is feeding every 2-3 hours but he also has an HR/oxygen monitor we were sent home with. It's so we can know he if starts having episodes due to his hydrocephalus until we can have surgery. But it's really loud and of course, he de-sats sometimes when he's straining to poop like most babies do, but you wouldn't know because they don't have monitors.

Now please excuse me as I try to get some sleep before I feed Luke again.
