LucyAnn’s Story

Site created on June 13, 2020

After three and a half healthy years as a cancer survivor, I have had to come to grips with the difficult reality that I have a chronic disease that is likely to recur and become increasingly difficult to fight.  No tumors showed up on my CT scan, but a PET scan showed that I have about seven enlarged lymph nodes that are malignant.

I feel good and have minimal or no symptoms now.  Some women are long-term survivors of this disease, and I will be doing everything I can to be one of them.  The positives are that I am catching it early, I responded well to chemo in 2016, and I have survived 3 ½ years cancer free since finishing treatment. I’m already eating well and exercising and am in good health otherwise, so I’m hopeful that will help. I know that the support of friends and family like you will be a crucial part of my recovery!

Barry and I will be using the Caring Bridge to keep family and friends updated in one place, and to provide a place for you to show your support. Any words of hope and encouragement, or just staying in touch, will be appreciated. Tallahassee friends, stay posted if you’d like to help out in the future. Right now we are doing well, but may be reaching out for more assistance in the weeks to come, especially since Barry is facing his own medical challenges.

Newest Update

Journal entry by LucyAnn Walker-Fraser

We just experienced a joyful reunion with our daughter Kristin, her husband Dorian, and our 17 months old granddaughter Felicity.   We were delighted that she quickly transitioned from a FaceTime connection to hugs and kisses for Grandma and Grandpa! Highlights were a trip Apalachicola and St. George Island as well as dining and playing at Kleeman Plaza and hanging out at home  - lots of new explorations and experiences, both scary and wonderous, quiet times as well as exuberant ones.

This seems like a transition time for us. Chemo is over, maintenance therapy is not a problem, we have made adjustments to meet Barry’s new needs, and this is our life now. We so appreciate the Meal Train and all love and nurturing that has come with your generous meals. We may have more need in the future, but we’re managing and life is good now. Thank you so much for all your help in so many different ways!
