Lucy’s Story

Site created on September 10, 2023

Lucy, Daniel, their beautiful new daughter Daisy, and their families need our love & support in a deep way right now.

On August 31, following a seemingly perfectly healthy pregnancy, Lucy developed preeclampsia and another complication (fatty liver) that required immediate delivery by c-section. Their daughter Daisy was born on September 1st, six weeks early but already over five pounds and in very good health. As we rejoiced over Daisy's safe arrival, there remained concern about Lucy. Certain metrics of health didn't seem to be improving as quickly as hoped, and she was being closely monitored and treated.

Around one week after delivering, things took a turn as Lucy's body started to show signs of severe distress. She was sedated and intubated and checked for liver failure, internal bleeding, and other causes. It was ultimately determined that she was in profound septic shock due to a bacteria that they began treating with a combination of dialysis, blood transfusions, and antibiotics. She remains sedated, intubated, and on a ventilator while continuing treatment. There is still a path forward for her to live, but it is narrow and the complications that will result from this crisis are growing.

Daniel and his mom, Lisa, will be the main contributors of this journal. We invite you to follow the journal entries, leave comments and photos, and donate to the GoFundMe to help ease the many costs that will be associated with this experience. (Please note that donations to CaringBridge website go to the website, not Lucy and Daniel.) We will continue to update with other opportunities to support.

Our hearts are completely shattered for our sweet, kind, beautiful Lucy and what she has gone through. We want nothing more than for her to live and get to experience motherhood and the love of her husband, family, and friends. Where hope has felt thin, our love for her is so strong. Thank you for being part of her community, and for giving and helping where you can.
