We are HOME!  Discharge day came 1 week ago today after 107 days in the Rush University NICU.  Walking around our house with Lucy wire free still feels so incredibly surreal.  Tears of joy ran down our faces as the 3 of us finally got to do family outside those 4 hospital walls.  Bittersweet tears fell down our faces as we said goodbye to so many doctors and nurses.  As cliche as it sounds, home was where the 3 of us were together, so the the NICU became home for 3 1/2 months.  The people surrounding us (our doctors and nurses) became a lot like family.  Without the help, support, compassion, and care of the medical team at Rush, Lucy would not be where she is today.  This 1st of 3 thank-you's is for those doctors and nurses that touched us in a special way.

Thank-you Rush NICU doctors, nurses, and medical team.  I don't know if you can even begin to comprehend the impact you've made on our family.  Your job isn't easy.  It's long hours.  It's intense days.  I don’t know the half of what you have seen. But I know that even though you always seemed to be smiling, behind closed doors, I'm sure you've cried your own tears. I know that in the moments of chaos when alarms were sounding and codes were being called and parents worlds seemed to be crashing down around them, you stayed calm and focused.  Through it all you always made sure that my world stayed upright.  I hope you know that I felt your hugs or your hand on my shoulder. I hope you know that I was grateful to see your face every morning. I hope you know just how important you were to us.  Thank-you from the bottom of our hearts for taking care of our little girl and making it possible for us to take our daughter home.

The 2nd of 3 thank-you's is to Team Lucy.  We are humbled and honored that so many of our friends and family came together to support us.  I firmly believe that without the prayer and support of this team, Lucy would not be where she is today.  People who haven't even met Dan or I have joined together to support our family.  For that we are eternally grateful.  Thank-you for every prayer said.  Every card written.  Every thoughtful gift given.  Every loaf of banana bread baked.  Every meal prepared.  Thank-you for every financial donation and fundraiser.  Without your help we wouldn't have been able to stay near our daughter.  Thank-you for changing your profile picture.  Thank-you for wearing your t-shirt or your bracelet.  Thank-you for reading our CaringBridge and following our story.  Thank-you for your care, compassion, and dedication to standing behind us as we walked through this NICU journey.  Thank-you for being a part of something larger than we could have ever hoped or prayed for.

And 3rd of 3 thank-you's and by far the most important.  Thank-you Jesus for holding Lucy in the palm of your hand.  I come to You today, humbled by all the mercy You have for us, knowing that I'm undeserving. Thank You Loving Father for answering our prayers. Thank You for the consolation, the strength, and the wisdom to understand. Thank You, because what seemed so difficult, You had already taken care of.

Please continue to pray for us as we navigate Lucy's continued care at home.  Thank-you again for each and every one of you that has touched our heart and our lives in such a special way.  There aren't words to express our gratitude.  Without further ado, after 107 long difficult days, "Welcome home Lucy Jean!"
