Lanette’s Story

Site created on February 10, 2014

The info below this line contains  the original timeline of events that began in February 2014. We have begun updating in journal entries that follow beginning January of 2019 as Mom fights off another staph infection in her heart.  We continue to appreciate your prayers and well wishes for her.

We are trying to have a central place for people to access info and know how to pray. Mom wasn't feeling well for awhile off and on.

Thursday 2/6/14 a good day and she picked up her new car (Ford cmax- color= ice blue... Pretty)

Friday 2/7/14 wasn't feeling so hot and Dad took her to ER. She was discharged (even though she couldn't breathe) after a CT and x-ray ruled out Pulmonary Embolism and was told to follow up with a stress echo and symptoms were probably rheumatoid related.

Sunday 2/9/14 back to ER and was critical.  Found a pericardial effusion and drained over 500 mL of infected fluid via cath from her pericardial sac.

Tuesday 2/11/14 Open heart surgery to strip pericardium and remove staph infection around her heart.

Wednesday 2/19/14 Discharged to go home

Wednesday 2/26/14 Back to ER with fever, rapid heart rate, sent home with potassium pills and follow- up doctor visits following morning.

Thursday 2/27/14 saw Dr. Husby and Dr. Saberhagen in office, but not looking/feeling that great

Friday 2/28/14 passed out in the morning at home with Becky.  Headed back to ER.  Admitted to ATU for observation and continued to decline with no real explanation despite running lots of tests.

Monday 3/3/14 We received an emergency phone call to get up to the hospital at 4:30 a.m. as Mom had gone into respiratory arrest and was on a ventilator.  Dr. Kraev did emergency surgery and discovered a clotted off hole in her left ventricle which he repaired during a 4 hour surgery.  Spent next several days in ICU.

Friday 3/7/14 Moved out of ICU and back to ATU.

Wednesday 3/12/14 Moved from ATU to TCU on 4th floor. Should be here < 2 weeks

Thursday 3/27/14 Discharged to go home

Tuesday 4/1/14 Follow-up visit with Dr. Husby who sent her to ER for stat Echo with BP of 66/46

Wednesday 4/2/14 Cardiologist appointment

Tuesday 4/8/14 Trifecta of doctor appointments (Kraev, Saberhagen & Husby) and the OKAY to drive!

A little more background:  The theory is Mom probably had some rheumatic pericarditis (http://www.rightdiagnosis.com/r/rheumatic_pericarditis/intro.htm)going on.  It really started to flare up on Superbowl Sunday 2/2/14 and she thought it was tweaked muscles in her back from shoveling.  Monday and Tuesday were uncomfortable days.  Wednesday wasn't much better, but she picked my boys up from preschool.  Thursday she felt better and went to Bible Study and I took her to Laurel to get her new car.  Thursday night she took her methotrexate (http://www.webmd.com/rheumatoid-arthritis/methotrexate-for-rheumatoid-arthritis)and she went downhill from there with an inability to breathe well or take a deep breath, radiating pain, and not able to find a comfortable position to sit or lay down.

Thank you all so much for your prayers once again. 🙏🦋

The doctor said the surgery went very well and they will have her up to attempt to walk tomorrow.  After her long nap 💤 and daylight savings time, she ordered French toast and scrambled eggs for dinner 😋. She should go home on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Funny tidbit... Dr. Kraev-her surgeon from before- had been in surgery on another patient and when he came to talk to THAT family, he was quite shocked to see us in the waiting room 😳

Thanks again for all your prayers and support, and if you come to visit, bring bubble wrap 😁
