Newest Update

Journal entry by Julie Cain

Since our last update has been quite a while, we thought we would let you all know how things are going. Joe had to stop his immunotherapy after just a few infusions, due to another tumor being found on his prostate. This tumor was biopsied and determined to be small-cell carcinoma, a highly malignant cancer that is very aggressive. The doctor decided to treat this with 6 rounds of extensive chemotherapy. Joe would receive treatment for three consecutive days, 6 hours each day, every three weeks. After 4 treatments, he would get another scan to see his progress. Well, he has had those 4 treatments, and we reviewed his scan results. The tumor has shrunk by about 20%, which is not as much as we were hoping for but still at least positive. He will receive another 2 cycles of chemo before having another scan, and doctors are confident the tumor will shrink even more. We have also decided to treat the prostate with radiation at the same time. The doctors and nurses say he will be totally wiped out during both treatments, so he will be doing a lot of resting and sleeping. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayer, as this is going to be a long and stressful road. We love you all.
