Hello Caring Bridge Family and Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that I make this post my last.  Lois begins Hospice today.  Her condition has not improved over these past 3 months.  Quite frankly, she has declined and is suffering horribly!  I pray that Hospice will help her find some relief from the stomach cramping and pain. She cannot take a step without losing her breath and vomiting.  So, she is bedridden.  She continues to receive her nutrition through her IV/Hiccman line every night, but that will soon be discontinued as well.  I see her decline every day.  She has suffered long enough and I pray that she will pass quickly.

Our Pastor came to visit yesterday and he said he would continue coming to our house to walk this journey with Lois.  I could see the relief on her face when he said that.  What a wonderful person he is!  Grandchildren have been coming sporadically to say goodbye as have immediate family.  I am asking you to please respect the fact that Lois is very frail and just not able to see everyone who wants to see her.  If you would like to get a message to her, please send a card or note to this address:

Lois Van Abel

I read every card that comes to her.  It does brighten her day to get these.

Oh .... and I'm doing ok, if you're wondering.  God is by my side, giving me strength and guidance.  My final gift for Lois is to help her leave this world with peace, comfort, grace and dignity.  And God is helping me with that too.  Please take care and THANK YOU for all your love and support during this long, sad, exhausting journey!  God Bless you!

Jim
