Logan’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge website for Logan Warmuth. We are using this site keep family and friends, both near and far, updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

Shortly before Logan’s 2nd birthday he started experiencing joint pain in his hip that doctors initially thought was a case of transient synovitis or an inflammation of the synovial fluid in the joint. The only treatment for this is anti-inflammatory medication while the condition resolves itself over the next few weeks.

After a couple weeks of rest and anti-inflammatory meds, it seemed Logan was on the mend. He was running around like a happy two year and playing with big brother James, keeping mommy and daddy on their toes as little boys do! However, not long after Logan spiked a series of fevers with continued discomfort in his hips. This prompted visits to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital where he was eventually admitted for additional tests. It did not take long for the doctors to identify the source of the problem...two days after he was initially admitted we learned Logan has leukemia.

The days that followed his diagnosis were a blur of additional testing, preparations for care, and learning about what the next steps would be. The additional tests have confirmed he has Acute Myeloid Leukemia or AML, a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. We learned these cancer cells were growing at a high rate in his bone marrow and preventing the development of good cells his body needs.

So from here we begin treatment to rid his body of these cancer cells. Logan has a wonderful team of doctors managing his treatment and care at every step of the process. He underwent a surgical procedure to insert a Broviac central line today, Monday July 23rd and his chemotherapy treatment begins this evening.

Logan will undergo multiple cycles of chemotherapy in the upcoming months to destroy the cancer cells and put the disease into remission. Mommy, daddy, big brother, and lots of extended family members will lovingly be by his side each day.

The goal of this site is threefold: to keep those who care about Logan up to date on his progress; allow mom and dad the opportunity to reach out to loved ones with their own thoughts and updates; and to allow those who follow to show Mark and Darcie their love and support over the upcoming months.

I know we have some friends on here that have followed Logan’s journey but are not on Facebook to see our updates so I wanted to share!

Logan had his 4 month visit this week and all of his counts look great. His white blood cells are still slowly creeping up and have almost hit the normal range. He has now officially been in remission for 4 months! His liver is still a little unhappy. His liver enzymes are still very high but they are have decreased slightly over the past two months (they are in the 180’s and normal is 40-60 so they have a ways to go). His liver is still slightly enlarged as well. His team of doctors are not concerned at this point and believe all the liver numbers are heading in the right direction and his body just needs more time to recover from all that it went through.

Logan is enjoying every moment of summer. He loves going to the pool and playing outside. He has lots of energy and plays hard! He now knows how to ride a bike with training wheels and is learning to swim as well. He also loves playing and chasing his big brother!

He has two more months of monthly blood work checks and then in August he will be able to move to every other month for 6 months. Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers!
