So what crazy stuff is going on with Liz now? I have traveled the path from "never ever will I have back surgery" to "Let's get this over with!" My spinal curve has significantly collapsed in the last few years so it is time for an intervention. Specifically: The procedure is a two stage procedure on two separate days. Stage 1) L4-S1 anterior lumbar interbody fusion; and Stage 2) T10 to pelvis posterior fusion (possible up to T5) with L2 pedicle subtraction osteotomy. Translation: Major big-ass complicated back surgery!

Stage 1 is scheduled for April 13, Stage 2 is the next day on April 14. Surgeries will be done at OHSU up in Portland, and I will be recovering up there for a few weeks before being discharged home for continued rehab. The totality of this journey will likely be 24 months, and a lifetime of improved health and quality of life. Bring it on!

What an inspiring and perfect memorial for Liz last weekend.  Over an hour of incredible and heartfelt stories on the lodge deck was illuminating; so many different facets of people were touched and motivated by Liz.  Then we walked to the pond for the memorial bench dedication ~ beyond beautiful!  Attached are some photos to hopefully capture the spirit of the day.
