I had a really good talk with Rabbi Zimmerman today.  She has been so wonderful - she is probably the busiest person I know and yet makes the time to talk with me and other congregants in need when she can.  I know it's a part of her job, but as a leader in both the Jewish and the Interfaith communities in the Twin Cities she doesn't have much time.  It is a gift and a blessing.
We talked a lot about my near-death experience in the hospital, and my fears about death (yes, I can say the word out loud now).  She said two things that really stuck with me.  One was the difference between believing first and only then doing, or doing first and letting the doing lead to believing.  The second seems to me to be faith...anyway, there is no judgement, just two ways of being.
The other thing she said was about the "Why" questions - why me and etc.  She suggested replacing "Why" questions with "Wise" questions.  Not Why am I still alive, but rather what will I do with the extra time that I might not have had.
So, that was my visit with Rabbi Z. as I like to call her (whether she likes to be called that I don't know, I don't call her that when I see her.  Some people call her by her first name, but I don't.  Respect.)  I always learn so much from her, whether one on one or during her sermons.  Thanks!
Then I took myself out for Indian food and went over to KFAI to help out with Write On Radio.  A good day!
