Liz’s Story

Site created on July 2, 2020

Welcome to Liz’s CaringBridge website and thank you for visiting.  We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

Liz was diagnosed with adrenal gland insufficiency at the beginning of June 2020.  While diagnosing this endocrine disorder, the doctors found genetic breast cancer in the lymph nodes and in breast tissue, which is unrelated to the form of breast cancer that led to a complete mastectomy for Liz two and one-half years ago.  Further testing has found that cancer has spread to the lungs, liver, and a small amount on the brain.

On July 6th, 2020, Liz started chemotherapy, and the plan at this point is for Liz to have chemotherapy for three months followed by one year of taking chemotherapy medication (pills).

We are confident Liz will remain strong and optimistic throughout this period, just as she did two and one-half years ago when originally diagnosed with breast cancer.

We are asking for both your prayers and words of hope and encouragement for Liz.  We will update this site periodically so that you can check on the status of her treatment/progress.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Carolyn Miller

Liz just received the results of her new brain scan. The oncologist determined that her condition was stable in May.  Unfortunately, this time there is further brain metastasis.  The doctor has ordered a different steroid to reduce brain swelling. And has cancelled the oral chemo drugs she has been on for eight months. She will get the new chemo via infusion every three weeks. Liz's doctor is checking to see if additional radiation is possible. Please continue to pray for Liz as she begins this new treatment and adjusts to this disappointing news.

Liz had a mild case of Covid recently and recovered nicely. She was injected with  monoclonal antibodies as a precaution. Unfortunately, she missed a celebration with her only uncle, my bro Phil Walch who came to visit from N.J.

Liz had a nice trip to Salt Lake City, Utah at the beginning of June. She joined women who are a part of her online breat cancer support group for a  spa and retreat there. And then toured the Sundance Ranch with a favorite friend in the group. The natural beauty there was a highlight of the trip.

Liz continues to enjoy creating stained-glass artwork for friends and family. And she has started working with small tiles to make mosaics. Gary helps sometimes since he has the bigger tools she needs and likes to offer advice. He is having great fun with a 3 D printer. Liz would like to be able to work from home some  of the time but management of the independent living facility where she works has not approved this. Residents want her available every day. Gary occasionally works from home.

Liz is touched and encouraged by the love and support of friends and family. Thank you for your prayers and well-wishes.

Love, Mom Carolyn, Mike and Tony
