Liz’s Story

Site created on December 17, 2018

To Liz's Family & Friends:
As many of you may know, 2018 has been a difficult one for Liz. She has been feeling poorly for most of the year in so many ways it's been difficult to keep track. From muscle weakness to severe joint pain to overwhelming fatigue, Liz has traveled from doctor to doctor trying to determine the root cause of all of these issues. Along the way there have been lots of "abnormal but not off the charts" results, which have led to multiple hypotheses but no real diagnosis. After being in a health "holding pattern" for most of the year, Liz finally received a diagnosis on Friday, December 14 - Stage 1 Multiple Myeloma. Myeloma is a blood cancer that is related to lymphoma and leukemia. The good news is that it's early and that it's treatable. The bad news is that Liz will be receiving chemotherapy and may have some tough days ahead.  Liz has given me permission to post her information here so that you can share in her journey, and my hope is that she will be able to make some posts as well. In the meantime, thanks so much for your love, support, and prayers for Liz.

For those of you that want to send cards, giftcards, or texts, here is her info:

Journal entry by Liz Hagerman

Today I went for in for my labs and an infusion … (not chemo, a bone strengthening medication). Met with my oncologist, and got the great news that I am finished with treatment!  It’s been almost 3 years (diagnosed Dec. 2018), and I can finally call this chapter closed. What a wonderful feeling and a great surprise!
There is no “cure” for multiple myeloma, so the disease will always be with me. I will continue to have appointments every 8 weeks to check my port/every 4 months for labs. But I’m so excited to know I am no longer receiving infusions moving forward.
Thank you for all the love & support during these years … it’s been long, but I’m so grateful for where I am now.
