Hi everyone,
I’ve been reticent to post any updates, as our last update was so positive. Imant has had a difficult recovery post-treatment, even with the good news of clean scan results.
Since December, he’s been in constant excruciating pain, which his multiple doctors weren’t able to diagnose. Rounds and rounds of tests, culminating in a laryngoscopy with multiple biopsies last month has led him to his newest round of treatment; daily hyperbaric oxygen chamber treatments.
It seems that his surgical wounds were so damaged by his radiation treatments that he has been unable to heal much at all. The hyperbaric treatments are aimed at increasing the levels of oxygen and blood to his wounds, and encourage regrowth of the blood vessels and capillaries.
He’s 2 weeks into his new treatment and we’re cautiously optimistic that they have started to promote some healing. It is a cumulative therapy and helps incrementally over time.
The wounds he has need to heal before he can move forward with other plans for recovery; PT, fighting his trismus, and increasing his food-intake.
We’re hoping this is finally a step in the right direction for him on his path to recovery.
Thank you everyone for your continued support. This isn’t something that just ends once treatment ends, and that’s one of the toughest things about it. Thanks for keeping us strong! 💪❤️
Love and gratitude,
V
