Newest Update

Journal entry by Lindsey Gregg-Kearns

We wanted to pass along another update for all of you who have been faithfully following Lisa and Mom's journey.  We are so grateful to have such a wonderful community of friends and family and have felt the support over the past several weeks (months!).  Thank you.

Lisa remains hospitalized at UNMC with kidney complications post-transplant, but she is definitely improving day by day!  She has had four rounds of dialysis (last one on Friday), and they are working to simultaneously correct her electrolyte imbalances, heal her kidneys and get fluid off of her. It's a delicate balancing act.  The BMT (bone marrow transplant) and Kidney teams are pleased with her progress, but she still has some more improving to do before they will discharge her.  Being hospitalized for such a long period of time (2.5 weeks) definitely takes a toll on a person's strength and mobility, but in true Lisa fashion, she remains positive and upbeat, and will do whatever it takes to get back to Lincoln.  They anticipate about another week in the hospital, and will likely continue dialysis once back home as an outpatient. For how long or how often, we just don't know yet.  Stay tuned.

I'm happy to report that Mom completed her 5th and final radiation treatment to her right hip/pelvis today.  She got to ring the bell... always such a joyful relief to be done with treatment! Her pain has improved and her spirit has been lifted by visits from both of her sisters, Kris and Connie.  It's been a Hollstein girls slumber party! 😍 Mom will meet with Dr. Vose (oncologist) on Thursday to discuss the treatment option ahead of her.  Please pray for clarity as there are some big decisions to be made this week.

I remain in awe of Lisa and Mom's strength through all of this.  It's clear where Lisa gets her toughness
from!

With gratitude and hope,
Lindsey
