Lisa’s Story

Site created on September 14, 2018

Welcome to Lisa's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.   Lisa was diagnosed with ovarian cancer on May 5th 2014. Her strength and courage has been remarkable and we are now at a stage of the disease where we need to amp up the prayers and create a louder choir of support for our leading lady. Lisa is now entering another round of chemotherapy, her 5th regimen in four years, and while this disease continues to wage war, and pose new challenges, Lisa has put on her warrior helmet and has been victorious every time.  We will be sending updates and inviting you all to share your thoughts, love and inspiration for Lisa. On behalf of our entire family, we are deeply grateful for all your support!
With Love,
Team Lisa

Journal entry by Al Kabus

On Thursday, December 13, 2018, Lisa Kabus, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away at the age of 59. Lisa was born December 4th, 1959 to Len and Vera Wolfson and raised in both Bloomfield, CT through her early years and then Houston, TX through her teenage years. Lisa was an accomplished painter, singer and writer. On September 4th, 1983 she married Al Kabus and raised two beautiful children, Lindsey and Matt in Atlanta, Georgia.  The family split their time between Atlanta and Park City, Utah where they enjoyed the beautiful mountains and forests which inspired Lisa’s artistic endeavors.  Lisa enjoyed skiing, hiking, tennis and loved to travel around the world. In a life filled with music, Lisa sung the most beautiful songs to which those around her danced; she leaves behind a legacy of joy, laughter, strength and independence and will be missed and celebrated by all that knew her.

Lisa’s memory lives on in her husband, Al Kabus; daughter and son-in-law, Lindsey and Sam Turkbas; son and his fiancé, Matt Kabus and Priyanka Venkatesh, brother, Steven Wolfson, sister, Valrie Mintzer and their families along with thousands of friends around the world.

A memorial service will be held Friday, December 21, 2018 at 12:00 pm at The Temple at 1589 Peachtree St., NW in Atlanta.  As an accomplished artist, Lisa loved color and would welcome attendees to wear bright and cheerful colors to support her wish for more of a celebration of her life than a mourning of her passing. Suggestions are colorful ties, shirts and socks for the gents and colorful dresses, blouses and slacks for the ladies.

In lieu of flowers, the family has created the Lisa R. Kabus Charitable Gift Fund.  Donations can be made via check payable to Schwab Charitable with "Lisa R. Kabus Charitable Gift Fund" in the memo and mailed to:  Homrich Berg, c/o Lee Van Leuvan, CFP, Three Alliance Center, 3550 Lenox Road, NE, Suite 2700, Atlanta, GA  30326.

Arrangements by Dressler’s Jewish Funeral Care, Atlanta (770) 451-4999.
