Lindsay’s Story

Site created on August 5, 2022

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support, words of hope and encouragement, and most of all your prayers. Thank you for visiting.

On July 13, 2022 we were devastated to learn that Lindsay had rectal cancer. Further tests showed a spread to the lymph nodes in her back. Her liver shows some spots, and a liver biopsy was performed with results still pending. She is also scheduled for a mammogram and a PET scan in the near future. She has started radiation, and a port has been inserted in preparation for chemo beginning Monday, August 8th.

Lindsay, just 35 at the time of her diagnosis, is a single mom with 2 kids, Jason (10), and Olivia (13). She lives in Ellettsville, near Bloomington, IN and works as a pediatric nurse.

We leave you with these words from scripture which are especially meaningful in this time of uncertainty.

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous hand." Isaiah 41:10

Thanks again for your support and prayers!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Allison Yonkman

Friends and Family,
In our most recent update on Lindsay, we had mentioned that she needed emergency stent placement surgery due to a blockage in her ureter. At the time, it seemed promising that this was the answer for all of her extreme back pain. All of the boxes seemed to be "checked" and it made sense as to why she was in so much pain.

Unfortunately, in the days following her stent placement surgery, the back pain came back in full force. She has been battling this pain with round the clock medications and even still, her pain remained at a level 5/6 at times. As you can imagine this was very overwhelming for Lindsay as this pain is on top of dealing with symptoms/side effects of her cancer and treatment.

Yesterday she was able to meet with one of her doctors and they said that they are thinking it may be a tumor pressing on a nerve. She will be getting a pain relief patch that she can wear all the time on top of taking her medications as needed.

She is still in desperate need of an ostomy surgery. As of now surgery is planned for May 15th. Please pray that she stays healthy enough to have this surgery and that she doesn't have any complications that would postpone it even further. Her doctor said that this surgery may help her back pain as it would give the perforation in her colon a chance to heal. They also said that this surgery will more than likely help with the recurrent infections that she has been getting.

We are thankful she was well enough to receive chemotherapy treatment yesterday (it has been a while since she has been well enough for this!). Her CEA numbers are high, and we are praying she can get back on a regular chemotherapy regimen.

Please keep her in your prayers in the coming weeks as she anticipates surgery, Lord willing! Your support and prayers have been incredibly appreciated throughout her journey.  Thank you!

Sincerely,

Lindsay's Family
