Journal

Hi everyone, Megan here again. Here’s the latest update:

Wednesday night we got mom moved into the hospital bed and set up. She had a hard night of coughing and phlegm. Around 3 am I took over the night shift from my dad and laid with her to help her through some coughs. 4 am Thursday morning I gave her her hourly medicine which she woke up for. Soon after that my son, Mason woke up crying (he had a tummy ache).

Mom sort of snapped awake, eyes wide and said “what’s that?” And I said, “Mason is crying for me, I don’t think he feels well.” And she said “Go take care of him first.”

So for the next hour I was back and forth between their two beds and by the time her 5 am morphine dose came around, she wouldn’t wake up for it and hasn’t since then.

Thursday morning the hospice nurse said she thought it would be later that day, but here we are two nights and days later and mom is still with us. She is peacefully (albeit shallowly) breathing and sleeping. She has not been agitated or aware since Thursday morning. We are taking it hour by hour and only God knows what the future holds.

Pastor Brad has been here to lead us through tough times Wednesday and Thursday, her prayer warriors from work came and prayed with us Thursday. Her sister, Lori stayed overnight to help out Thursday night and my husband Matt flew in from Austria last night. Michael, Dad and I have shared the duties of her medicine, moving her to make sure she doesn’t get bed sores, wetting her lips with a sponge, etc. Caitlynne has been amazing helping to keep things organized and entertaining the kiddos. Thank you again to everyone who has brought food, groceries, diapers, formula, and anything we’ve needed in the last 48 hours so we could stay by her side. Thank you to the people who have taken Mason so he could get out and have some fun!

Mason is doing better by the way. He enjoys dancing in the living room to Grandma’s MercyMe we’ve been playing, he kisses her goodnight before bed, and he even shared one of his new cars with her to take with her to heaven (he keeps checking to see if it’s still in her bed). Kids truly are resilient.

Please pray for peace and we will update you all when there is a change. Thank you again for your love and support.
