Linda’s Story

Site created on September 12, 2021

First of all, our family thanks you from the bottom of our hearts for the outpouring of love and support.  Yes, she was vaccinated.  Yes, we are all in shock.  Yes, she has underlying health conditions.  She is 72.
Here is a brief backstory...

On Thursday, August 26th, Linda started not feeling well.  Saturday the 28th she was diagnosed COVID positive.  Damien was also positive and my dad went the next day had a positive test.
On Monday, Aug. 30th she went to the ER and she got fluids.  Her labs and chest X-ray looked good and she went back home.  She was monitoring her oxygen at home and had a nurse practitioner she would check in with if she had concerns.
Tuesday morning the 31st,  we had her call the nurse and they told her to come back into the ER.  This time they put her on a new inhaler, steroids, and oxygen for at-home use.
The oxygen helped some but she was not getting markedly better. By Friday, September 3rd, she called the nurse back again and they had her go to the hospital by ambulance.  This was day 1 of her hospital admission.
She was diagnosed with Covid Pneumonia and placed in a step-down unit.  She was very, very weak and her body needed time to heal . Unfortunately,  her lungs continued to need more and more support.
On Wednesday, September 8th, she was moved to the ICU and placed on a ventilator.  This was her 6th day in the hospital.

As a side note. My dad and brother Damien also had Covid. They were all vaccinated.  I firmly believe the vaccine saved them.
My dad was also hospitalized from Sunday, Sept. 5th- Wed. Sept.8th.  He is doing much, much better. He also had Covid pneumonia.

Journal entry by Allison Jones

Linda Lee Gustafson passed on to her next journey Saturday September 18, lovingly surrounded by her immediate family. She is at peace. Sadly, despite all efforts her body was not responding to treatments after a three week battle with COVID-19 related pneumonia. At this time, no arrangements have been made, but we will let you know as soon as plans for a celebration of Linda's life are finalized and where additional tributes can be made. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts, prayers and tributes. Please stay safe and healthy.
