Journal entry by Lacey (McGarry) Roose

This week I graduated from physical therapy! The nerve damage in my wrist and fingers has healed. I can turn my right hand over to my palm. After seventeen months of work, I am able to:

  • type on the keyboard
  • communicate by finger spelling and sign language
  • open (most) doors
  • independently put on earrings, bracelets, and necklaces
  • carry a bag of groceries
  • fold towels and clothes
  • hold both hands open on my face (my surgeon’s goal since May 2019)
  • and………….

I will continue to wear my metal and plastic “Stat-A Dyne Pro/Sup” splint for an hour each day, but I am just fine with this commitment. At the last appointment with my surgeon, his face was one of relief and he repeatedly said, “You have made my day!” My physical therapist commented on this journey and proclaimed, “Go live your life, Lina.”

Grace and  support  arrived  through  prayers, cards, calls, meals, flowers, and visits. Terry, Lacey, and Brady were patient, encouraging, and loving beyond measure. My nickname seems to be “The Warrior.”
