Journal entry by Joette Kallsen —
I haven't posted an update in a while, because things have been pretty boring on our end. Which I will take! In June Lily did have another lumbar puncture with chemo afterwards. We did have to hold her daily oral chemo for a week after that because her counts were low. After that week though we were back on track. Last week around the 8th I noticed Lily may have caught a stomach bug, it didn't seem as bad as I thought as first and she even seemed to make a full recovery before the weekend. Then on Sunday the 12th she threw up two times that morning almost back to back and her diarrhea had started up again the night before. I called her Dr and he told us to come in. They took a stool sample on Sunday and hooked her up to fluids right away. It turns out the poor girl was dehydrated more than I realized 😕. On Monday we got the results back from her stool that she did indeed have C-Diff, a stomach bug. We are now in isolation and she can't leave the room. Apparently it can be fairly easy to catch this bug, and we need to make sure and stay secluded in order to protect the other kiddos on this floor. Overall Lily is doing MUCH better once she started antibiotics. The only thing she needs to focus on now is getting her water in so we can be released. She was pretty dehydrated so they are hesitant to release her if she isn't drinking on her own. So here is to hoping she starts drinking so we can keep having some more boring days ahead 😉
