Lily ’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

A few weeks ago (early February 2022)  Lily had some unexplained swelling on the right side of her leg, below her knee.

We did a round of antibiotics to treat a possible tissue infection. This didn’t do anything.

We got an ultrasound on 2/17 of the entire leg to look for DVT / blood clots. They didn’t find any.

We went back that evening and got an x-ray and the fibula showed a tumor. The sunburst appearance of it made them concerned.

They did blood work and a chest x-ray next. The doctor said the blood work and chest x-ray looked good and they said that was a piece of good news.

Next we did an MRI of her right leg which suspected osteosarcoma (update: it’s Ewing’s sarcoma).

After this we did a CT scan of her chest and lungs. They are cautiously pleased with the results, but a PET scan will be important to confirm no spreading. Typically the lungs are the first place to spread though.

Our next steps include meeting with the orthopedic surgeon this week to schedule a biopsy. The biopsy will determine the PET scan roadmap as well as the surgery plan.

After the devastating news, of course, waiting has been the next hardest part. We are told this is all done in specific steps to ensure the best plan in a very methodical way. We of course wanted this ALL figured out, started, and finished this weekend. We have been brought down to reality and we are learning to try to take it as prescribed.

I’ll update here as we find out next steps. We sure would appreciate your prayers!

Journal entry by Regan Bombardier

No evidence of disease from leg MRI, chest CT scan, and blood work.

Thank you God. It’s so incredibly hard to live on this constant emotional rollercoaster.

Next scans are scheduled for June.
