Lillian’s Story

Site created on October 29, 2018

Lillian Jade was born 10-24-18 at 11:59am, weighing in at 1lb 15oz and measuring 13 inches. Her very unexpected arrival came while she was just 25 weeks 6 days gestation, 14 weeks early! Mom was admitted to First Light Health System in Mora, MN in the early morning but was already too far along to be transferred.  A team was sent up via helicopter to assist with delivery and get Lillian down to Children's Hospital-Minneapolis, it only took them 22 minutes to make the flight! A breathing tube was immediately placed to help Lillian breathe, as her lungs are not quite ready to do it on their own yet, along with a few lines placed in her umbilical cord to give medicine and draw blood when needed.

For 101 days we have waited. For 101 days we have watched our girl fight for her life. For 101 days we have gone home without her.  From the very beginning at a mere 1lb 15 oz she has proven to be the strongest person we know. We have watched her endure multiple procedures, from being intubated, having a chest tube, going through two surgeries and everything in between. We were there when she first opened her eyes to the world. After weeks of all types of respiratory support we were there when she took her first glorious breaths on her own.  We were there, but she did it all. We will always be a NICU family, but today on the 101st day (the day after her due date) for the first time we get to go home as a family.

We would like to say thank you. Thank you to everyone. Going through this experience has shown us that there are good people in the world. Family, friends and people we’ve never even met we thank you. Thank you for the outpour of love for our girl, the support, the baby showers, the gas cards, the gifts, the freezer meals, the thoughts, prayers and good vibes. Thank you to our employers for being flexible and understanding we needed to be with our girl. Thank you to the nurses, neonatologists, surgeons, and respiratory techs for keeping her alive. Thank you to friends of friends of friends who donated and helped us stay afloat. Thank you to everyone that helped with Jaxon, our fur child will be happy to have some consistency back in his life because this was also stressful for him. Thank you to everyone for helping us get through the most stressful and scary time of our life.
