Infusion number 4 over and done yesterday. Now comes the waiting...I will have a PET scan in the next week or two that will determine if we can drop the carbo from the protocol (good results will be the determining factor) or if I need to have two more carbo infusions (the maximum infusions with carbo are 6 on my protocol). Obviously, I'm keeping good thoughts that my carbo days are over!

 

I can't say enough about the staff at the chemo center. They take such good care of the patients - and the impatient, yes there's usually one or two there! - and can't seem to do enough for our comfort.

 

They also educate you as you go. Whether it's your first question something they're doing to you or your fifteenth about the same subject, they provide answers with kindness. And they educate you on things going on around you - I saw woman yesterday who had her feet wrapped in a foil covering and ice bags and cooking mitts on her hands. I asked my nurse about it and see  explained that the chemo the woman is taking makes the patient extremely cold. They have discovered that chilling the feet, hands and sometimes the head counteracts the effect of the chemo (strange, I know!!!) and brings the body temp to a comfortable level. I think I'd have to tell the MDs to find a better chemo plan...I can't imagine having a day of being cold as a way I'd like to spend the day. Those who know me well know that I have a very low tolerance for cold!
