Les and Jessie’s Story

Site created on January 5, 2023

**** We respectfully ask that you don’t share with Les’ Mom, Lorna Lisowski.  They have not shared this journey with her because it would be entirely too stressful and worrisome to her. She loves with her whole heart and this would very hard for her.

We wanted to start this site to provide updates on my sister, Jessie, and Les. Some of you may know the health journey Les has been through for the past year and a half.

Long story short: prostate cancer led to bladder dysfunction and removal which sadly led to kidney failure.

My mom and Les have been to so many doctors appointments, Les has had test after test, surgeries..  and my mom has done relentless research and planning. Driving so many miles to Grand Junction, Aurora, Denver. Missing work, and changing their entire lives.

As expected, Les made everyone laugh everywhere they went. And my mom took notes, asked questions and smiled :)

There has been defeating life changing news throughout this journey.

Well, the time has finally come for some wonderful life changing news!

The UCHealth organ transplant committee approved Les to be added to the kidney transplant list! This gave everyone some hope!

After rigorous testing, giving lots of blood, and filling out questionnaires, my sister has been approved to donate one of her kidneys to Les! Such an amazing blessing 💗

Pre-op appointment is scheduled for January 27th.
Transplant Surgery is scheduled for February 6th.
Both will be in Aurora at the Anschutz Medical Campus.

They both have to stay with 30 minutes of the hospital during part of their recovery time. My sister for at least one week and Les for 30 days. So, Jessie, Les and my mom have found an Airbnb to take residence in for that time.

Please send prayers, good vibes and all things positive!

Journal entry by Jayme Steinmetz

Today marks ONE year since Jessie donated her kidney to Les. Some days it seems like yesterday and others, it seems like all we have ever known. Our family has always been here for each other so none of this surprises us ♥️

Les has had a few obstacles but as usual he handles them like a champ. He two hernia surgeries -  one in June and one in December.

In January, he took a private plane ride from Gunnison back to UC Health  Anschutz in Denver because scar tissue was  twisting his lower intestine. He recovered from this surgery very well.

Jessie is looking forward to some travels this spring! She earned a well deserved trip through her Edward Jones business. Her and Shane will be enjoying some time in France!!

How do we thank you all for the love, prayers, phone calls, texts and monetary support? We wouldn’t be where we are in this journey without all of the support! Thank you! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 💗
