Leonardo’s Story

Site created on September 30, 2019

Dear family and friends,
In late September 2019,  just a few days before his 22nd birthday, Leo was diagnosed with stage 3 testicular cancer which has likely metastasized to the retroperitoneal lymph nodes and lungs. Following surgery, the pathology report identified the 2.7 cm tumor as embryonal carcinoma. I will be posting updates about his care and progress as we go through this frightening, unexpected journey.
With gratitude,
Neah Jo

Leo had another follow up this week at Duke which went well! They did  bloodwork to measure tumor markers and did CT scans of the head, chest, and abdomen. No signs of recurrence, thankfully.
Meanwhile he has been working towards his commercial drivers license at Cape Fear Community College. He has already been driving tractor trailers up and down highway 421 and is doing well at parking them, too!
What a joy after what he was enduring one year ago!
