Leo’s Story

Site created on September 3, 2022

September 1, 2022 Leo was born at 7:06 AM.

Leo swallowed some meconium and fluid on the way out and did not take his first breath or cries. This was extremely tough on his little body so he was transported to the hospital to receive oxygen and to help him breath. He was also born with myelomeningocele.

Two very big problems for such a little guy. Leo was shortly after airlifted down to St. Paul where he is currently on a cold bed for 72 hours to help reduce brain swelling and damage. Leo is scheduled for his first surgery on Monday with MRI. We will know more on Leo’s progress then. Leo, mom and dad are all staying down at Children’s Hospital in St. Paul receiving care for his lack of breathing in his first moments as well as the myelomeningocele. This time for us has been extremely difficult and we are just asking for prayers that Leo will make a full recovery. He is such a handsome chunky boy. Sometimes things happen in life that we don’t understand why, this is a difficult time for us and we know that God does have a plan, we thank you all for your prayers.

As expected, he’s a big and tall boy- 8lb 11oz and 22.5 inches long.

Journal entry by Joclyn Benson

Leo’s MRI came back with good results. Nothing wrong with his shundt and we will get another MRI done in 6-12 months to continue to monitor. We still haven’t heard anything on the CT scan of his lungs. We just ask for continued prayers and maybe some answers on his oxygen needs.
Leo’s been enjoying the warmer weather and we’ve been outside everyday this week! We’re ready for spring!
