Lena’s Story

Site created on August 11, 2018

This is a site to help keep Family and Friends updated.

A short summary.

During a 28 weeks ultrasound there was a cyst found on what they thought was Lena's ovary.  I had two Level 2 ultrasounds afterward about 3 weeks apart.  Both ultrasounds the cyst measured 1.5cm.  Since the cyst was not growing it was suggested to hold off on additional ultrasounds until Lena was born.  Lena was born on Thursday June 7th by way of induction.  (Corey and I were getting impatient as her due date was the 5th.) She had an ultrasound in the hospital where they did not find a cyst.  Doctors previously said the cyst may go away on its own but I wanted to be sure.  After talking with our Pediatrician she ordered an abdominal ultrasound.  During that ultrasound (when she was about 2 weeks old) they found a cyst on her intestine measuring 2.2x2.4x4.0 cm.  It had definitely grown.  We met with a pediatric surgeon and he said it would need to be removed so thats puts us here! Her surgery is scheduled for Tuesday September 18th.  At the time they are planning on doing it laparoscopically.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Molly L

This may end up being our final update!

We went for Lena's post-op today. They said everything looks great and based off of my information/stories everything sounds normal!

They were not able to open her pathology report but will send one out to us. Based off of what he remembered though it was a "duplication cyst" meaning just a bit of extra intestines.

She is at a bit of a higher risk for bowel obstruction but he said it's pretty low. He also reminded me that anytime we go in for an "upset tummy" in her life to not let them tell us appendicitis since she no longer has her appendix.

Other than that he said we are good to go on as normal! Woohoo!

Lena had her 4 month check up last week and was on track for her milestones except gross/large motor skills. My fault as I never made her do much tummy time afraid that it could hurt her. We are full force now though doing tummy time and sitting up in her bumbo chair!
She didn't gain as much weight as expected but normal based on her surgery and all that. But by no means does she look "skinny". She's got some awesome chunky cheeks! And thighs for days!
Her personality is coming out so much now too.  She loves to giggle and laugh and talk. But most of all loves her big sister! They are a hoot together. She loves to smile. Just by saying "hi" we get a huge gummy smile. My favorite!
