Lee’s Story

Site created on January 30, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. Lisa and I are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your continued love and support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

I have metastatic prostate cancer. Despite  having PSA tested every year for the last decade, the cancer appeared suddenly between two annual checkups, and had already spread to involve some bones and lymph nodes by the time we knew it was there. Now we are on a path to live and love in a deeper and more meaningful way, every day.

If you are coming to the site for the first time I suggest starting at the first journal post as it is a chronological story.

Journal entry by Lee Sampson

It's about time!  I have been so busy writing a book of my memoirs that I forgot to write to all of you. Seriously, many of you have asked, begged, pleaded and otherwise encouraged me to write. It may seem like a natural thing for a story-teller to write, but it turns out not necessarily to be so natural. It was challenging to get started. My friend Tera-Lee found a OLLI class at Kennesaw State that suited me to a T - how to write your memoir. I thoroughly enjoyed the class and it kicked off my writing. As life's interruptions have gotten in the way, I have slowed down, but I know the path to follow, but let me take this break to tell y'all I am doing great.

I just had a checkup and the scans were still stable and the blood tests stable as well. Nothing has changed for the past several years with my health and cancer. Its still sitting there quietly. I take my medicine, try to stay active and eat reasonably well, and count on the love and support of all of you. And I am ever so grateful.

But cancer is a mess. It is leaving me alone, but it is stomping all over our loved ones - too many of them. Son-in-law Nick, sister-in-law Vickie, and several other friends and acquaintances. It's hard to see and feel. Its so frightening for them and their loved ones. But Lisa and I are trying to use what you all have taught us by Being There. In whatever way we can, we will be there to hold hands and share prayers and fill in the gap of the unknown waiting times with humor and good food and faith that things will work out.

Cheers to all.
